Current Exhibition at Broadcast Gallery
Effectcurated by Vaari Claffey
For the exhibition, Effect at Broadcast Gallery, Vaari Claffey has produced a new issue of feint zine.
This issue, number 13, is concerned with the reported effect of artworks.
Re-presenting material from journals, blogs and artists' own reflections and researched by Vaari Claffey and Sam Keogh, the issue also includes works by Dean Hughes, Karl Burke and Isabel Nolan.
The zine is installed with an accompanying exhibition for which artists Sally Osborn, Bea McMahon, Sam Keogh and Karl Burke have taken the photocopied pages of the zine as the primary material, folding or wetting and reworking them to produce new sculptural works.
Sam Keogh's Spitwad was made from copies of the magazine cover, shredded and wet and then then flung against the gallery wall in batches and adorned with glittery powder. For Bea McMahon's Short Adventure each page of the magazine is folded and set into another folded structure and placed on the floor in a colour-sequence which matches Isabel Nolan's image for the cover of feint. Karl Burke refolds A4 photocopies of folded A4 paper and Sally Osborn's oval wall work Projects Itself into the Future combines the paper with plaster and pigment.
Feint is distributed free of charge (but not necessarily freely), throughout the run of the exhibition.
